Japan Hands Over Rehabilitation Center for Visually Impaired People

(Kathmandu: 5th March): The Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr.YOSHIOKA Yuzo, inaugurated a Rehabilitation Center for Visually Impaired People in Gorkha District today.

The center was built by the grant assistance of USD 85,315 (approximately NPR 8.86 million) from the Government of Japan.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. YOSHIOKA said that the assistance will contribute for lives of visually impaired people in the district and the surrounding areas to participate in socio-economic activities.

The Project for Building the Rehabilitation Center was funded under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan. The project was managed by the Gorkha Association of the Blind.

The Gorkha Association of the Blind, a branch of the Nepal Association of the Blind, provides counselling services and training to visually impaired people to help them restart independent living through capacity development.

The GGP project had supported the construction of a two-storey rehabilitation center that will also serve as a care home.

The Embassy of Japan believes that the project will contribute towards enhancing the income generation and capacity development of visually impaired people in Gorkha District, while also contributing towards strengthening the bilateral relations between Japan and Nepal.
