Embassy of Japan in Nepal

Message from the Ambassador

Namaste and welcome to the Embassy’s home page.

I am Masamichi Saigo. As the new Ambassador of Japan I arrived in Kathmandu on 27th May, 2018 and presented the Letter of Credence to the Rt. Hon’ble President Ms. Bidya Devi Bhandari on 27th June. It is a great honor for me to officially assume the ambassadorship in Kathmandu.

Since I joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in 1980, I have worked in various areas of the agricultural sector. During that period, I had an opportunity to work at the Embassy of Japan in India from 1988 to 1991. During my tenure in Delhi, I visited Kathmandu twice, and the pleasant memories of those trips still remain in my mind. After retirement from MAFF in 2017, I served as an advisor to MAFF. Now, I am here in Kathmandu again with a precious mission to represent Japan.

Over a long period of time, Japan, as a true friend of Nepal, has been contributing to Nepal’s socio-economic development. In 2016, the Japanese and the Nepali peoples celebrated the 60thAnniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in a magnificent way. We now enjoy a multi-faced and very friendly bilateral relationship thanks to all the efforts made for decades by Japanese citizens who have resided and worked here and their Nepali friends. It is indeed a great pleasure for me to work in a country which is very friendly towards Japan.

As per the new constitution promulgated in September 2015, federal, provincial and local elections were successfully held in 2017. As a result, Mr. K.P. Oli and his party are given the people’s mandate to lead Nepal. I believe all the efforts made the Government of Nepal towards the steady implementation of the new constitution and further settlement of democracy will contribute to the socio-economic development of Nepal.

I believe that I will actively exchange views and opinions on a variety of issues with Prime Minister Oli and his cabinet members, government officials business communities, the Japanese community in Nepal, and any other friends of the Embassy. I will do my best to promote mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.

June 27, 2018
Masamichi Saigo
Ambassador of Japan to Nepal
