Japanese Government honours former minister Mr. Ramesh Nath Pandey

On February 24, 2021, Ambassador Saigo bestowed upon Mr. Ramesh Nath Pandey, former foreign minister of Nepal, The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, in recognition of his contributions towards strengthening the relationship between Japan and Nepal. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the ceremony was held online.
Mr. Pandey led the Japan-Nepal-China trilateral expedition of Everest in 1986 as Minister of Tourism, and he also issued a stamp of EKAI Kawaguchi, a Japanese monk who was the first Japanese visitor to Nepal, when he was Minister of Information and Communications in 2002.
In 2005, as Foreign Minister, Mr. Pandey visited Japan with then the Crown Prince Paras and Crown Princess Himani, to open the Nepal Pavilion at EXPO 2005 AICHI JAPAN. He had close personal relations with Mr. HASHIMOTO Ryutaro, the former Prime Minister of Japan and they cooperated each other for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2006.
In his speech, Ambassador Saigo paid tribute to Mr. Pandey’s various contributions for the bilateral relations between Japan and Nepal. During his acceptance speech, Mr. Pandey expressed his deep appreciation for the honour that had been accorded him, he mentioned that Nepal and Japan has been a good friend for long time and hoped the bilateral relations will be flourish further.
