(Kathmandu, June 8): H.E. Mr. KIKUTA Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, paid a courtesy call on the General Prabhu Ram Sharma, Chief of the Army Staff, at the Army HQ, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Ambassador Kikuta congratulated General Sharma in person for his appointment as the Chief of the Army Staff in last September. He welcomed the success of the local election held on May 13, 2022, and praised the Army and other security authorities for contributions to the preparation and operation of the nation-wide election. Both side confirmed the necessity of the close cooperation in case of severe incidents or natural disaster, especially in case the Japanese citizens are involved. Ambassador Kikuta also mentioned the contribution of the Nepali Army to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations and indicated that two countries would further cooperate both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Ambassador Kikuta and General Sharma shared the views to cooperate further to expand the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries. Ambassador Kikuta emphasized the long history of the tie between Japan and Nepal and explained, as an example of the long-time bilateral friendship, that the year 2022 commemorates the 120th anniversary since the first Nepali students travelled to Japan in 1902 and some of them studied ammunition technology in Japan.
