Japanese Ceramic Exhibition "Yakishime: Earth Metamorphosis"
2024/6/4
The Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation organized the exhibition "YAKISHIME - Earth Metamorphosis" at the Japanese Embassy hall, Kathmandu from 10th to 30th May 2024. Ambassador Kikuta Yutaka inaugurated the exhibition on the first day, where some 60 guests were participated.
“Yakishime” is the unglazed ceramic wares firing at high temperatures. This exhibition displays yakishime wares as part of Japan’s traditional culture, as a type of ceramics that has developed in distinctive ways in Japan. It presents their history, from the earliest examples to the present through yakishime tea vessels, food vessels, and works that are transformations of yakishime into non-utilitarian objets d’art. During the 21-days of exhibition, about 1100 art loving audiences visited.
