Announcement of Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship for 2022

*April 27, 2021: Announcement for MEXT Scholarship 2022 is now cancelled, due to the decision made by the Nepal Government to put off all the university-level examination until further notice, as a preventive measure of COVID-19 infection. The Embassy of Japan would like to follow this decision made by the Nepal Government for our scholarship selection. We appreciate for your understanding.*
The Government of Japan offers scholarships for Postgraduate/ Research Students, Undergraduate Students and Specialized Training College Students for the Academic Year 2022 under the Monbukagakusho Scholarship Program as follows:
A. Postgraduate/ Research Students
1. Qualifications
Applicants must be Nepalese nationals under 35 years of age as of April 1st 2022 (i.e. born on or after April 2nd, 1987) and have completed at least 16 years of education (15 years is also accepted if the undergraduate course is designed for only 3 years) and secured 70% marks for Natural Sciences and 60% for Humanities and Social Sciences in average in all level of exams.
2. Fields of Study
Humanities and Social Sciences: Literature, History, Aesthetics, Laws, Politics, Economics, Commerce, Pedagogy, Psychology, Sociology, Music, Fine Arts, etc.
Natural Sciences: Pure Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Fisheries, Pharmacology, Medicine, Dentistry, Home Economics, etc.
The field of study must be the same as the applicant's previous study leading to their final graduation. Applicants need to attach attested copies of certificates and mark-sheets along with the application.

Please send the notarized copies of your academic records (mark-sheets, certificates), citizenship together with the research proposal and a recommendation form to education@km.mofa.go.jp by May 14, 2021 at the latest. We only accept submissions by email. Please make sure that attachments for the email should be below 10MB, otherwise we cannot receive it.
4. Terms of Scholarship
Two years from April 2022 to March 2024 (extendable for masters/ doctoral courses). The term will be one and half year for those students who choose October session.
5. Japanese Language
Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language, be interested in Japan and enthusiastic about deepening his/ her understanding of Japan after arrival there.
B. Undergraduate Students
1. Qualifications
Applicants must be Nepalese nationals between 17 to 24 years of age as of April 1st 2022 (i.e. born between April 2nd 1997 and April 1st 2005). Applicants must have completed a twelve-year regular course of education and have secured 75% marks for Natural Sciences and 65% for Humanities and Social Sciences individually in SLC and plus two exams.
2. Fields of Study
Humanities and Social Sciences (A): 1.Laws, 2.Politics, 3.Pedagogy, 4.Sociology, 5.Literature, 6.History, 7.Japanese language and 8.others.
Humanities and Social Sciences (B): 1.Economics and 2.Business Administration
Natural Sciences A: Science (1.Mathematics, 2.Physics, 3.Chemistry), Electric and Electronic Studies (4.Electronics, 5.Electrical Engineering, 6.Information Engineering), Mechanical Studies (7.Mechanical Engineering, 8.Naval Architecture), 9.Civil Engineering and 10.Architecture, 11.Environmental Engineering, Chemical Studies (12.Applied Chemistry, 13.Chemical Engineering, 14.Industrial Chemistry, 15.Textile Engineering) and other fields (16.Metallurgical Engineering, 17.Mining Engineering, 18.Mercantile Marine, 19.Biotechnology).
Natural Science B: Agricultural studies (1.Agriculture, 2.Agriculture Chemistry, 3.Agricultural Engineering, 4.Animal Science, 5.Veterinary Medicine, 6.Forestry, 7.Food Science, 8.Fisheries), Hygienic studies (9.Pharmacy, 10.Hygienic, 11.Nursing), Science (12.Biology).
Natural Science C: 1.Medicine, 2.Dentistry.

5. Terms of Scholarship
Five years from April 2022 to March 2027 (seven years for medical/ veterinary including one-year preparatory education in Japanese language and other subjects). In principle, the selected Applicant must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2022.
6. Language: All classes will be given in Japanese language.
C. Specialized Training College Students
1. Qualifications
