2. Qualifications
Applicants must satisfy the following qualifications and conditions. For more details, be sure to read the Application Guidelines before applying.
- Nepali nationals
- Under 35 years of age as of April 1st, 2026 (born on or after April 2nd, 1991)
- Have completed at least 16 years of education (18 years for doctoral course)
- Have secured 70% marks (CGPA 3.1) for Natural Sciences and 60% (CGPA 2.5) for Humanities and Social Sciences in average of plus 2 and above degree.
3. Fields of Study
Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related fields.
4. Terms of Scholarship
Two years from April 2026 to March 2028 (extendable for masters/doctoral courses). The term will be one and half year for students who choose October session.
5. Language
Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language, be interested in Japan and enthusiast about deepening his/her understanding of Japan after arrival.
6. Application
(1) For all applicants
Please send the digitally filled or scanned documents listed below to education@km.mofa.go.jp by June 1st 24:00 (NST), 2025 at the latest. Applications arriving after the deadline will not be accepted.
※Please note that we do not send a receipt email. Only the qualified applicants (those who submit all required documents and satisfy all qualifications) will be notified of their examination number by June 6th.

- Please use “[MEXT: research] Surname_Givenname_Middlename” as a title of your submission email.
- Applicants need to keep the originals of the application documents. You will be asked to submit them at the interview.

(6)Recommendation Letter from the president/dean or the academic advisor at the current or last university attended
(8)Abstract of thesis (Only if you have written thesis.)
(9)Certificate of Language Proficiency (Only if you have documents attesting to competency in Japanese or English.)
(10)Recommendation Letter from the present employer (Only if you are currently employed.)
(11)Photograph or digitally recorded media of your art work (Only if you apply for fine art or music)
(12)Attested copy (by notary public) of Citizenship Certificate
