Japanese Assistance for
the Project for supporting reconstruction of housing after the devastating earthquakes in 3 VDCs of Khavrepalanchok District

The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of 306,694 US Dollars, equivalent to approximately 32,595,438 Nepalese Rupees to AMDA Multisectoral and Integrated Development Services (AMDA-MINDS) under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects Scheme. AMDA-MINDS, an NGO based in Japan, will provide technical and financial support to partner agency, SAGUN Nepal, to implement the Project for supporting reconstruction of housing after the devastating earthquakes in 3 VDCs of Khavrepalanchok District.
A Grant Contract relating to this project was signed and exchanged on 9th December at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal between His Excellency Mr. Masashi OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal and Ms. Maiko KOBAYASHI, Program Coordinator, AMDA-MINDS.
This grant assistance will be used to implement a project at Kharpachok VDC, Sipali-Chilaune VDC and Walting VDC in Khavrepalanchok District, for the reconstruction of housing after the devastating earthquakes in April and May. The major elements of this project are:-
Reconstruction Committee
The project will support to form a “housing reconstruction committee” in each target VDC.
Topographic Survey
The project will conduct a topographic survey in target VDCs.
Training
This project will provide skills training for safe demolition of houses and skills training for building houses (masonry, carpentry etc.) to local people.
Provision of Tools
This project will provide the necessary tools for demolition/ construction to promote community-based activities for housing reconstruction.
The Embassy of Japan expects that this project will enhance the cordial friendship between the peoples of Japan and Nepal.
