Japanese Assistance for
Nepal Disaster Specialist Education Program

The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of 84,213 US Dollars, equivalent to approximately 8,950,157 Nepalese Rupees to Japan IsraAID Support Program under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects Scheme. Japan IsraAID Support Program is a NGO based in Japan, which will provide technical and financial support to partner agency, Tribhuvan University, Tri-Chandra College, Department of Psychology and Philosophy, to implement the Nepal Disaster Specialist Education Program.
A Grant Contract relating to this program is scheduled to be signed and exchanged on 9th December at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal between His Excellency Mr. Masashi OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal and Dr. Mihoko NAKATANI, Director of Japan IsraAID Support Program.
This grant assistance will be used to implement the Disaster Specialist Education Program for local professionals in the fields of psychology, medicine, and social welfare, aiming to make them the leaders/ trainers of disaster psychosocial support workers. The major elements of this program are:-
Training Program
The program will provide “Psychological First Aid Trainer’s Training”; “Art Therapy” as a psychological care for disaster survivors; “Effective Treatments for Survivors with Trauma” and “Prevention and Control of Stress in the Community”.
Fieldwork
The program will provide trainees opportunities to practice the learned knowledge and enhance their proficiency through fieldwork in shelters, temporary learning centers, orphanages and social services run by local NGOs in the 14 districts which were severely affected by the earthquake.
Internship
The program will provide six-month internships with the aim of leading the participants to employment at the host organizations or in relevant fields after the completion of the program.
The Embassy of Japan expects that this project will enhance the cordial friendship between the peoples of Japan and Nepal.
