Japanese Film Festival in Kathmandu and Pokhara

The Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation in support with the Japanese Language Teachers’ Association Nepal (JALTAN), organized a Japanese Film Festival. The event was organized in Pokhara on 9th and 10th February, and in Kathmandu on 23rd and 24th February. Four movies were screened in Pokhara and five were screened in Kathmandu.

The synthetic character of Japanese art has been part of its film since the beginning so it has been recognized for excellence by Japanese as well as international audiences. Japanese films are often paced differently and significant messages are delivered through silent shots. This year the film festival was dedicated to showcase the finest dramas covering popular genres such as history, contemporary subjects, animation, comedy etc. The festival attracted almost 800 people for the four screenings in Pokhara and 1,600 people for the five screenings in Kathmandu, making a festival great success.
