PIONEER NEPALI
STUDENTS IN JAPAN-A CENTURY AGO
The Voyage
The ocean and sea-journey were fascinating for the
Nepali travellers. Very few, if any Nepalese had the chance to
experience such a journey. On April 29, 1902 the students
and their entourage boarded the ship and sailed for unknown
Japan - via Colombo, Rangoon, Singapore, Hong Kong,
Kobe and finally Yokohama after 46 days at sea. Three of the
young people suffered sea-sickness. In their diary notes the
students have left memories and records of detailed
expenditures at every port they called on.
