50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Japan-Nepal Deplomatic Relations

Commemorative Ceremony

On September 1, the Embassy of Japan celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza followed by a performance of traditional Japanese music.

During the ceremony, congratulatory messages from Prime Ministers Mr. Junichiro Koizumi and Mr. Girija Prasad Koirala, as well as from Mr. Toshihiro Nikai, Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and Chairman of Japan-Nepal Parliamentarians' Friendship League were presented. They expressed their belief that the friendly relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the years to come.

As part of the commemorative ceremony, the Embassy of Japan hosted a music concert 'Hogaku: Japanese Traditional Music Today' on September 3. The Japanese artists demonstrated performances of koto, shakuhachi and sho which were also accompanied by the performance of Nepalese musicians with sarangi, bansuri and tabala. More than 500 people attending the concert greatly enjoyed and appreciated the performances with sounds of applause at regular intervals.
