|
The Embassy of Japan in Nepal has decided to provide a grant assistance of ninety-two thousand, nine hundred and ninety US dollars (US$92,990), equivalent to approximately seven million, one hundred eighty-eight thousand, one hundred and twenty-seven Nepalese rupees (NRs.7,188,127), to Love Green Nepal for the execution of the Project for Construction of Janata Secondary School Building at Navarajpur, Siraha District, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) Scheme of the Government of Japan in Japan's FY 2001.
The Grant Contract to this effect was signed today between Mr. Takamichi OKABE, Chargé d' Affaires, a.i., Embassy of Japan in Nepal, and Mr. Keshav Aryal, Vice President of Love Green Nepal.
The grant will be utilized to construct a new school building that will have 12 classrooms, an office room, a library and a science laboratory. Required infrastructure for drinking water facility and sanitation will be developed. Necessary educational equipment will also be procured from the grant assistance.
Janata Secondary School, established in 1954 as a lower secondary school and upgraded in 1995 to a secondary level, is the only such school at Navarajpur VDC in Siraha district. The school is in a dilapidated condition and without sufficient classrooms. The school lacks facilities for drinking water and sanitation as well as adequate equipment for the classrooms. The construction of a new school is expected to create a conducive environment for education and also promote girl education in the area. About 7,500 people from Navarajpur VDC and others in the neighbouring VDCs are expected to benefit from the Project.
The Love Green Nepal, the recipient and implementing organization, is responsible for construction work and will contribute technical support, besides monitoring and evaluation, during the construction of the building. The Navarajpur VDC will provide land for the building construction and will mobilize the community for unskilled labour.
On the occasion, Mr. Takamichi OKABE, Chargé d' Affaires, a.i., stated that the Government of Japan had recognized the primary role of education in the nation building process. He further wished that this small gift from Japan could go a long way in empowering the community through education.
