The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of US Dollar 625,657.00, equivalent to approximately Nepalese Rupees 60,951,504 to ADRA Japan under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects Scheme.  ADRA Japan is a NGO based in Japan, which is working with Nepalese partner agencies ADRA Nepal and Safe Motherhood Network Federation Nepal, to implement the Project for Strengthening Reproductive Health Service Project through Improving Health Facilities and Capacity Building for Medical Service Workers (3rd Phase).

A Grant Contract relating to this project was signed and exchanged today between His Excellency Mr. Masashi OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal and Ms. Mai OGAWA, Project Manager of ADRA Japan at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal.

This project, aiming for the improvement of neonatal and maternal health, since February 2012, was implemented in Dailakh for the 1st Phase and in Kalikot for the 2nd Phase under the support of Grand Assistance of the Japanese Government.   The major elements of the 3rd Phase of this project, which will be implemented in Jajarkot, are:-

(1) Improvement of the Basic Infrastructure of Health Facilities
ADRA Japan plans to construct six Birthing Centers, one each in Punma VDC, Shunaoli VDC, Salma VDC, Dhime VDC, Jhapra VDC and Archaana VDC of Jajarkot District and provide medical equipment and a solar electronics system power support to each constructed Birthing Center.  Solar electronics system power support will also be provided to the Jajarkot District Hospital to refrigerate vaccines.

(2) Strengthening the Capacity of the Health Institutions
This project will conduct Results-Oriented Leadership and Management Training to the District Reproductive Health Coordination Committee/DRHCC and Leadership Development Training to Health Facility Operation Management Committees/HFOMCs to mobilize them.

(3) Training to Health Service Providers
To reduce unplanned pregnancy in the district, this project will conduct Implant Training and Skilled Birth Attendant Training to local health service providers.

(4) Awareness Raising and Promotion of Reproductive Health
To improve people’s health seeking behavior in family planning, this project plans to provide Family Planning Training at the local level and to conduct community awareness campaigns through radio and street dramas on Safe Motherhood Day.

The Embassy of Japan expects this project to be both a success and to enhance the cordial friendship between the people of both countries.
