Japanese Foreign Minister, H.E. Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, sent a condolence letter today to Rt. Hon. Mr. Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Nepal for the death of the Nepalese nationals in Iraq. The letter reads as follows:
September 1, 2004
Excellency,
I cannot help but feel grief and anger to learn the death of the Nepalese nationals by violence in Iraq. I would like to express my deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families, His Majesty's Government and the people of Nepal.
The atrocious act of taking hostage and killing innocent civilians is intolerable. Japan shares deep sympathy toward the position demonstrated by His Majesty's Government of Nepal in firmly denouncing terrorism. Sharing the determination with Nepal, Japan will continue to positively engage herself in the fight against terrorism.
I pray for the repose of the souls of twelve Nepalese nationals who lost their lives in this tragic incident.
Sincerely yours,
Yoriko Kawaguchi
Minister for Foreign Affairs
Government of Japan
Rt. Hon. Mr. Sher Bahadur Deuba
Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs
His Majesty's Government of Nepal
