Japanese Festival in Kathmandu

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (JCCN) organized 'Japanese Festival - Sense of Cool Japan 2008' in Summit Hotel on November 29. The purpose behind the event was to promote deeper understanding of Japanese culture among Nepalese people. The festival was inaugurated by Ambassador Mr. Mizuno and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Ms. Hishila Yami. In her speech, Minister Yami praised the JCCN for successfully organizing the festival which offered firsthand experience of Japan's rich culture and tradition. She highlighted close and cordial ties that Japan and Nepal enjoy and spoke on the ways to boost relations even further. Ambassador Mr. Mizuno said that Japan has different kinds of charms and urged the visitors to enjoy the spirit of Japan.

Over 1500 visitors Nepalese, Japanese and foreigners enjoyed the best of traditional and contemporary Japan throughout the day. The festival had much more to offer-spectacular cultural exhibits, dynamic cultural entertainment and delicious Japanese food. Highlights of these included taiko (drumming), kendo (bamboo sword fencing), origami (Japanese paper-folding), tea ceremony, ikebana (flower arrangement), dancing, music, gardening designing, mochitsuki (rice cake making) and many more. In addition to these, there were JICA outlets giving information on vocational skills and training as well as 'Isson Ippin' (One Village One Product) outlets displaying and selling unique Nepali products. There was something new and intersting for everyone for the whole day.
