Photo Exhibition on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

On August 5, Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Photo Poster Exhibition jointly organized by Japanese Department of Campus of International Languages, Tribhuvan University and Embassy of Japan, and supported by Japanese Language Teachers’ Association Nepal (JALTAN) was inaugurated at the Embassy Hall. The exhibition will be open to general public from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from August 6 to 11, 2010.

The purpose behind the exhibition is to create awareness among Nepalese citizens about the dangers of nuclear weapons and to renew keen desire for global nuclear disarmament and lasting peace in the world.

In his inaugural speech, Ambassador Mr. Mizuno said, “6th and 9th August are the most painful and sad days for every Japanese citizen. Every Japanese person does not wish to recall the heated summer day under the huge mushroom clouds. 65 years ago, atomic bombs, Genbaku, were dropped in Hiroshima on 6h August and after 3 days in Nagasaki. About 214,000 people lost their lives in the flames. Japanese people have never forgotten the horrific scenes of their parents and children burned and incinerated in front of their eyes by the huge A-bomb flash and resulting fires.”
He added that he was deeply moved to see a large gathering and peace rally of Nepali people to mourn the A-bomb tradegy every year, and impressed by the Nepali people’s dearest wish for world peace.

In the exhibition, documentary on ‘Hiroshima: A Mother’s Prayer’ is screened. In addition, origami (paper crane folding corner) is also set up at the venue. Crane is a Japanese symbol of world peace. Paper cranes folded by visitor will be sent to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum as Nepali people’s wish for lasting world peace.
