|
The Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of Home Affairs, His Majesty's Government of Nepal, have concluded a Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects on transportation arrangements for the project of "Emergency Food Supply for the Insurgency Affected People" of Nepal. A contract to this effect has been signed today by Mr. Kazumi SUZUKI, Charge d'Affaires a.i., Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Umesh Prasad Mainali, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On the occasion that His Majesty's Government of Nepal receives more than 36 metric tons of food donated by the local governments in Japan via Japan Society for Promotion of Diplomacy, the Government of Japan has decided to bear the cost of maritime and land transportation of the above-mentioned food from Japan to Nepal. The food offered by Japan Society for Promotion of Diplomacy is of pre-cooked and dried type and is instantly consumable just by adding water and is used in emergency cases.
Subsequent to the ceasefire, His Majesty's Government of Nepal has been planning to rehabilitate those displaced or affected by the insurgency, specifically in the mid-western and far-western regions. Since a large number of people have been displaced, the government is under constant pressure to make food materials available to the displaced people in the country.
The project of "Emergency Food Supply for the Insurgency Affected People" of His Majesty's Government of Nepal will be helpful for supplying emergency food to the displaced people in the nine most affected districts of the mid western region. The districts covered under the project are Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan, Pyuthan, Jajarkot, Humla, Jumla, Kalikot and Bardiya.
His Majesty's Government of Nepal will bear the cost of internal transportation, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will assume the responsibility of distributing the food to the affected people. The available food, equivalent to 362,750 meals, will be distributed among the people targeted by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
