Japan Provides Assistance for the Construction of New Kawasoti Sub-station
|
The Government of Japan has decided to extend a grant assistance up to eight hundred and forty-seven million Japanese Yen ( 847,000,000), equivalent to four hundred fifty-two million two hundred and ninety-eight thousand Nepalese Rupees (NRs.452,298,000), or approximately six million nine hundred and eighty thousand US Dollars (US$6,980,000), to the Government of Nepal for the Project for the Construction of New Kawasoti Sub-station in Japan's Fiscal Year 2007.
His Excellency Mr. Tsutomu HIRAOKA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Mr. Vidyadhar Mallik, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, signed and exchanged Notes today on behalf of their respective Governments.
The Grant extended to the Government of Nepal today is intended to procure the products and services necessary for the construction of New Kawasoti Sub-station in order to provide a reliable and quality electricity supply to the population of the eastern part of Nawalparasi District and to meet the increasing electricity demand as well as to reduce the system loss in the target area.
At present, the power supply to the eastern part of Nawalparasi District, which is the targeted area of the Project, is not very reliable due to the low capacity of the existing transmission system (35km long 33kV transmission line from Bharatpur sub-station) causing substantial voltage drops and transmission loss. Because of the long distance 33kV transmission line and existing 11kV distribution system, population in the target area are experiencing frequent interruptions of the power supply caused by system over-load. At the same time it is projected that, due to the increase of residents settling in the area from other parts of Nepal and the establishment of new factories, the electricity demand in the target area will increase considerably in the coming future. Due to the foregoing, the Project for the Construction of New Kawasoti Substation has been planned to address the un-reliable electricity supply in the target area.
Under this Grant, a new 132/33/11kV Kawasoti Sub-station will be constructed to loop in with the existing Bardaghat - Bharatpur 132kV transmission grid, and isolate the existing Bharatpur - Kawasori 33kV transmission line and connect the distribution system to the New Kawasoti Sub-station; there by enhancing the reliability of the distribution system for the population of eastern Nawalparasi District.
After the completion of the Project, it is expected that a total population of 190,000 in eastern Nawalparasi District will directly benefit from the New Kawasoti Sub-station. It is also expected that the Project will help promote industries in the area and consequently enhance the living standard of the people living in the area, bringing forth alleviation of poverty and economic disparity.
On the occasion, HE Mr. HIRAOKA expressed his sincere hope that this Project will prove to be yet another milestone in strengthening the existing friendly and cordial relationship between Japan and Nepal.
