Handover of Girls Hostel to Kanya (Girl's) Campus, Pokhara

His Excellency Mr. Tsutomu HIRAOKA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal inaugurated and handed over Sakura Dormitory, Girl's Hostel to Kanya (Girl's) Campus, Pokhara.
The Embassy of Japan has extended a grant of ninety-one thousand, seven hundred and fifty-one US Dollars (US$ 91,751), equivalent to approximately six million, four hundred forty-five thousand, five hundred and eight Nepalese Rupees (NPR 6,445,508) to Kanya (Girl's) Campus, Pokhara for the implementation of the Project for Constructing the Female Students Hostel of Kanya (Girl's) Campus, Pokhara, in Japan's Fiscal Year 2005 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan. The 2-storey hostel building with 10 rooms, accommodating 20 students, will provide accommodation facilities for girl students pursuing studies in teachers training courses from the Mid-Western and Far-Western Development Regions.
Out of the total project cost of approximately NPR 15,327,000 Kanya (Girl's) Campus contributed up to 21% of the cost, which included procurement of furniture and the construction of a fence and compound wall etc. Similarly, the Japan-Nepal Female Education Association (JNFEA) also contributed approximately 37% of the total cost used for the installation of electricity and for interior works, toilet facilities etc. Additionally, JNFEA is also providing scholarships which will pay each year under the project of Training of Female Teachers in Remote Areas of Nepal the hostel fee for 20 female students from the Mid-Western and Far-Western Development Regions, who will be serving as teachers in the areas of their origin.
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA, stressed the need for promoting girls education for the economic and social development of Nepal. Furthermore, he expressed his belief that Kanya (Girl's) Campus, with better hostel facilities and learning environment, will encourage female students from distant areas to pursue higher education, and their contribution in the future will promote education in remote areas.
Additionally, H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA expressed his hope that the project will signify the wishes of the Government of Japan and its people for the promotion of the well being of the Nepalese people, symbolizing a long-lasting relationship of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Nepal at the people's level.
It is to be noted that this year marks the 50th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal. Japan, as a close friend and development partner of Nepal, has been assisting the Government of Nepal for several decades in its efforts to alleviate poverty and achieve sustainable economic development through economic and technical cooperation.
