Honorable Minister for Education and Sports Prof. Dr. Mangal Siddhi Manandhar and His Excellency Mr. Tsutomu HIRAOKA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal jointly inaugurated and handed over Eichi (Pragya) Girl's Hostel to Padma Kanya Multiple Campus today amid a function held at Padma Kanya Multiple Campus, Kathmandu.
The Embassy of Japan has extended a grant of four hundred twenty-one thousand, eight hundred and eighty-five US Dollars (US$421,885), equivalent to approximately thirty-two million, five
hundred six thousand, two hundred and thirty-nine Nepalese rupees (NRs. 32,506,239) in Japan's Fiscal Year 2001, to the Campus, for the construction of the Girl's Hostel Building, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan, in order to address the inadequacies in the facilities of the Campus. It is the largest project supported under the GGP scheme in terms of financial amount provided in Nepal. The GGP fund is exclusively utilized for the construction of the 200-bedded hostel building including sanitary and electrical work, and procurement of necessary furniture.

His Excellency Mr. HIRAOKA mentioned that the project will contribute to address the problem of inadequate accommodating facility in Padma Kanya Multiple Campus, the largest women's institution in the country, which is providing post-school education to the girl students coming to Kathmandu from various parts of Nepal over five decades.
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA stressed the need for promoting girls education for the economic and social development of Nepal. His Excellency Mr. HIRAOKA expressed his belief that the new hostel building will contribute to the creation of a conducive environment for girl students in the Campus from various parts of the country to pursue higher studies to acquire "eichi", the wisdom.
Additionally, H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA expressed his hope that the project will signify the wishes of the Government of Japan and its people for the promotion of the well being of the Nepalese people, and will serve as symbol of long-lasting friendship and cooperative relations between Japan and Nepal at the people's level.
It is to be noted that this year marks the 50th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal. Japan, as a close friend and development partner of Nepal, has been assisting the Government of Nepal for several decades in its efforts to alleviate poverty and achieve sustainable economic development through economic and technical cooperation.
