"The Heart of Asia" - Illustrated Book Launched
|
On January 8, Ambassador Kaminaga launched an illustrated book entitled "The Heart of Asia". The book was originally written by a famous Japanese artist and poet and published by the National Federation of UNESCO Association in Japan (NFUAJ) in 2000 on the occasion of the "International Year for the Culture of Peace". The NFUAJ has translated and published the same book in Vietnamese and Khamer (Cambodian) languages so far. In 2002, NFUAJ made funds available for publishing ten thousand copies of this book in Nepali.
The essence of the book is to spread the spirit of peace and is inspirational to all who read it. Its message is practical and focuses on how the individual can contribute to this aim from their own respective places. The book has a useful collection for children including the relations between human beings and nature, unity among the people and the importance of peace.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Kaminaga remarked that the book would inspire school children in Nepal and help to cultivate a sense of peace, respect for life, dignity and develop a spirit of generosity. He further said that the book would be very fruitful in fostering an understanding of peaceful co-existence and help to further the conservation of Asia's exquisite natural resources.
The books will be distributed free of cost to public and private schools inside and outside Kathmandu. Ten districts have also been selected for distributing the book through the "Out-reach Programme" initiated by "Youth Initiatives" in addition to the distribution to the "Community Learning Center" under the UNESCO program throughout the country. It is expected that the book will inspire Nepalese children so that they can generate a positive attitude to overcome the many hurdles that await them after they finish their education.
