The Embassy of Japan in Nepal has decided to extend financial assistance of seventy-nine thousand, five hundred and thirty-two US Dollars (USD 79,532), equivalent to approximately six million, five hundred and fifty-seven thousand, four hundred and thirteen Nepalese Rupees (NRs 6,557,413) to Chhabis Rural Sensitive Center (CRSC), for the implementation of the Project for the Construction of Dobra Community Health Center in Bajhang District in JFY 2008. This assistance is given under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan.
A Grant Contract to this effect was signed and exchanged in Kathmandu today between His Excellency Mr. Tatsuo MIZUNO, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Mr. Bhim Bahadur Thapa, CRSC member and president of the Rural Development Service Group (RDSG) in Kathmandu.
The objective of this Project is to upgrade medical services at Dobra in Bajhang District of the Far-Western Development Region. Approximately 5,000 people currently unable to reach the hospital or health center due to the remoteness of the area are expected to be benefited from the Project. The grant is to be utilized for the construction of four buildings equipped with a mini operation room, radiology room, medical store, doctor's room and other facilities. The grant is also intended for the procurement of medical equipment, furniture and other commodities required for the operation of the Center.
Like many rural areas, Dobra VDC currently has no health service facilities. The Project is expected to provide urgent medical treatment and basic health check service to the people of this region. CRSC, which provides assistance for the rural development in Bajang over a decade, is to cooperate with RDSG to implement the Project.
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Mizuno stressed the need for basic health care and medical facilities in rural areas. He expressed his hope that this project will improve the health of rural communities, contribute to the accessibility and effectiveness of essential health services, and meet more efficiently to communities' demand for health services. Furthermore, he expressed his belief that CRSC and RDSG will play a significant role in strengthening the friendly relationship between Japan and Nepal at the people-to-people level.
