Handover and Inauguration Ceremony of the Earthquake Resilient Model House in Chautara
|
Since 25th May 2015, just one month after the massive earthquake of 25th April, Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) and the Institute for Sustainable Actions for Prosperity (ISAP) have jointly implemented the Nepal Earthquake Relief Project in Sindhupalchowk District, funded by the Japan Platform. So far, Corrugated Galvanized Iron (CGI) sheets have been distributed to 2,505 households and model housing programs have been carried out in the same location. In addition, 58 local masons were trained in constructing earthquake-resilient houses based on the government’s curriculum and eight such houses have been constructed with technical design assistance from National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET) Nepal.
As a result of these activities, a handover and inauguration ceremony is hold on 9th November 2015 at Chautara Municipality of Sindhupalchowk District. Honorable Mr. Agni Prasad Sapkota, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation, will inaugurate and hand over a Disaster Resilient Model House to Mr. Bhuvaneshwor Lamichane, Executive Officer of Chautara Municipality.
The building shall be used for community purposes by Women’s Groups, Dairy Collection Centers, and Forest Users’ Groups. In order to expand its function, awareness programs to local home owners are also planned for this month.
PWJ, established in February 1996, is dedicated to the support of people in distress, and/or threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil, and operates in many parts of the world. It has been extending humanitarian services globally with the vision of “A world where people can live without the threat of conflict and poverty, full of hope and respect for one another”.
