The Embassy of Japan has decided to extend a grant of fifty-three thousand nine hundred and five US Dollars (US$53,905), equivalent to approximately three million, nine hundred seventy-four thousand, nine hundred and fifty-four Nepalese rupees (NRs. 3,974,954) to AIUEO Circle Association (ACA), Japan for the implementation of the Project for Establishment of a Library at Arunodaya School, Chitwan in Japan's fiscal year 2003 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan.
A grant contract to this effect was signed and exchanged between Kazumi Suzuki, Minister, Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Sugahiko Sugimoto, President of AIUEO Circle Association (ACA), Japan on January 10.
The grant will be utilized for the construction of a two-storied library building consisting of a study hall, meeting room, reference book rooms, storeroom and other facilities. The grant is also intended for the procurement of 2 sets of computers and 2888 sets of books, as well as for the monitoring cost of the project work by Japanese and Nepalese personnel.
Shree Arunodaya Higher Secondary School, established 43 years before, is located at Geetanagar, Chitwan, which is about 10 km south of Bharatpur Municipality. The school provides education to about 952 students. Besides, the office of Geetanagar Educational Resource Center is also located at the premises of the school, that coordinates teachers training and educational improvement activities for 43 schools in and around Geetanagar. However, the school lacks a library building and other necessary facilities. Hence, the project is intended to provide a conducive environment for education.
The estimated cost of constructing the library building is about Rs. 3,790,672. Out of this amount, 30 percent of the construction cost will be borne jointly by Geetanagar VDC, Geetanagar Market Management Committee and the school itself. The operation and maintenance of the library will be carried out by Shree Arunodaya School in close collaboration with local people and organizations.
It is expected that the project will be able to provide a better learning environment and help improve the educational status of the students, teachers and people from different walks of life residing in Geetanagar and neighbouring VDCs.
