Hashimoto Scholarship Awarded


On May 11, Ambassador Mr. Tsutomu Hiraoka awarded Hashimoto Scholarship to four outstanding students of Kathmandu University. Also present in the ceremony were Prof. Suresh Raj Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Deans, faculty members and students of Kathmandu University.

The "Hashimoto Foundation" was established by the Honorable Ryutaro Hashimoto, Former Prime Minister and Member of the House of Representatives of Japan and his fellow alpinists. The aim of the Foundation is the promotion of education at a higher level so that scholars will be able to contribute to society and the further development of their country.

The Foundation has so far granted scholarships to thirty students of Kathmandu University, including four scholarships this year to support study to graduate level programs leading to masters of Philosophy degrees in education under the School of Education. This is the eighth consecutive year that the Hashimoto Foundation Scholarships have been presented to the students of Kathmandu University. Two students in 1998, and four students every year since 1999 have been receiving the Scholarships.

After presenting the awards, Ambassador appreciated the hard work of the recipient students and expressed his hope that the students would contribute to the promotion of education in Nepal, which is one of the most important tasks of nation building. Expressing his sincere thanks to the Foundation on behalf of Kathmandu University, Prof. Sharma remarked that the Scholarship would certainly help students pursue higher attainments in their respective areas of study.
