Japan Welcomes the Conclusion of the Voluntary Retirement of ex-Maoist Combatants

The Embassy of Japan in Nepal welcomes the latest political development in the ongoing peace process and is encouraged by the news that the discharge processes of the voluntary retirements of the ex-Maoist combatants, which is regarded as one of the major components of the current process, have been duly concluded.

This achievement marks another important milestone towards realizing the aspirations of the people of Nepal, and Japan, as an old friend of Nepal, sincerely wishes that outstanding issues, such as the reintegration of the ex-Maoist combatants and the legislation of the new constitution, would make further headway through peaceful and constructive dialogue between the political parties while adhering to the letter and spirit of the 7-point Agreement signed on November 1st 2011.

As H.E. Mr. Koichiro Genba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, said during official meeting with Honourable Mr. Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Deputy Prime Minster and Foreign Minister of Nepal on January 31st 2012 in Tokyo, that Japan wishes to see the conclusion of the above subjects within the agreed time-frame and hopes to further extend its assistance to Nepal in compliance with its future political development.

The Government and people of Japan are ever ready to assist Nepal's efforts to this end, and are ready to support the people of Nepal, and also confident that the friendly and cooperative relations that so happily exist between the two countries will be further strengthened in the days ahead.
