Japan’s Assistance for the Project for Constructing a Building for
Khurkot Sub-Health Post in Sindhuli District |
The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of 54,867 US Dollars; equivalent to approximately 4,329,006 Nepalese Rupees to Khurkot Sub-Health Post in Sindhuli District. By utilizing this grant, Khurkot Sub-Health Post will implement the Project for Constructing a Building for Khurkot Sub-Health Post in Sindhuli District. This financial assistance is extended under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan in Japan's Fiscal Year 2011.
The Grant Contract relating to this project was signed and exchanged today between His Excellency Mr. Kunio TAKAHASHI, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Mr. Gopal Karki, Health Post In-Charge of Khurkot Sub-Health Post.
Khurkot Sub-Health Post, located in Bhimeshor Village Development Committee (VDC), is one of the public medical institutions under the jurisdiction of the District Health Office, Sindhuli. The Sub-Health Post has been serving the local people with primary health care service since its establishment in 1996. An Auxiliary Health Worker, a Maternal and Child Worker, and an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife are working at the Sub-Health Post providing basic medical care such as pregnancy checkups and immunization for infants of the residents of the surrounding villages. Further, this Sub-Health Post gives emergency medical treatment to people injured in traffic accidents which occur on the nearby highway as there is no appropriate hospital or clinic around the area. Despite the increasing needs, Khurkot Sub-Health Post lacks sufficient physical facilities, which cause many problems during medical consultations and clinical treatments. The Sub-Health Post does not have its own building and operates from a small rented room. Since there is only one bed, it is impossible for them to treat many patients properly and efficiently, especially at the time of serious traffic accidents.
Under the project, a new one-storey Sub-Health Post building is to be constructed. The building will be equipped with a five-bedded sickroom, a birthing room, a treatment room, a consultation room, a storeroom, an office room, a training hall and a waiting hall. By improving and upgrading its capacity, the Sub-Health Post is expected to benefit about 10,000 residents of the surrounding villages from Ramechhap District as well as Sindhuli District.
Speaking at the function, H.E. Mr. Kunio TAKAHASHI expressed his belief that the project signed today is going to contribute to improving primary medical care services in rural areas of Nepal. HE also expressed his hope that the grant will play a significant role in further strengthening the cordial and friendly relationship between Japan and Nepal.
