Special Communicators for a World without Nuclear Weapons in Kathmandu


The Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu would like to inform you that Mr. Toyokazu Ihara and Ms. Kiyomi Iguro, the Special Communicators for a World without Nuclear Weapons, arrived in Kathmandu on 15th May 2011 on a 5-day visit.

The Special Communicators, who are survivors of the atomic bomb disaster, are entrusted with the responsibility to pass down their indelible experiences to international societies as well as to future generations to raise awareness of the fear of such weapons, and to promote international initiatives to build a "World without Nuclear Weapons". Japan, the only country ever to have experienced atomic devastation, has been appointing the Special Communicators since 2010.
 
During their stay in Nepal, Mr. Ihara and Ms. Iguro will be attending the Gautam Buddha International Peace Award Ceremony which will be held in Lumbini on the 17th of May.  In addition, they will attend the Opening Ceremony of the Atomic Bomb Photo Exhibition and Talk Program which will be held in the Memorial Hall of the Tribhuvan University on 18th May from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The winners of the Gautam Buddha International Peace Award, Mr. Tomihisa Taue, the Mayor of Nagasaki City and Dr. Tadatoshi Akiba, the Former Mayor of Hiroshima City will open the exhibition.
