|
The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of 94,648 US Dollars; equivalent to approximately 9,187,481 Nepalese Rupees to Nepalese Humanitarian Help Organisation, a local NGO in Kathmandu. This financial assistance is extended under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan in Japan's Fiscal Year 2013. Nepalese Humanitarian Help Organization will implement the Project for Drinking Water using River Water and Rain Water Harvesting (RWH).
A Grant Contract relating to this project was signed and exchanged today at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal between His Excellency Mr. Masashi OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Mr. Ram Chandra Kaphle, Chairman, Nepalese Humanitarian Help Organisation.
This grant assistance will be used to construct two water pumps and water pumps houses; three water tanks; thirty one distribution tap stands, and a total of 8,640 meters of pipe line to provide safe drinking water for the people in Ward numbers 7, 8 and 9 of Chyangli VDC, Gorkha District. This area, due to the geo-structure, is very dry and it is difficult to access to water.
This project will provide safe water stability to 713 households, which is 4,278 people, and it is expected to mitigate diseases caused by unsanitary water and to reduce working hours of women and children by reducing the time they spend fetching water.
The Embassy of Japan expects that this project will improve people’s lives in Chyangli Village and it will become an example to others areas, encouraging them to seek improved drinking water facilities and access.
