The Embassy of Japan has decided to extend a grant of seven thousand one hundred and seventy-four US Dollars (US$7,174), equivalent to approximately five hundred twenty-five thousand, four hundred and twenty-three Nepalese rupees (NRs. 525,423) to Pokhara Japanese Language & Culture Center for the implementation of the Project for Books Donation for Pokhara Japanese Language & Culture Center in Japan's fiscal year 2003 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan.
A grant contract to this effect was signed and exchanged today between Hiroshi JINGU, Counsellor, Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Manoj B. Shrestha, Chairman of the Center.
Under the project, a total of 1,206 sets of Japanese books will be provided to Pokhara Japanese Language & Culture Center. The books have been donated by the Rotary Club of Shiba, Tokyo, Japan. The Government of Japan will bear the transportation cost for the books from Japan to Nepal via air.
The Center, established in 1998 in Pokhara with the financial support of Japanese citizens, has been engaged in the teaching and learning of Japanese language and culture to the residents of Pokhara. Since its establishment, a total of 545 students have been registered and 61 students graduated. It is to be noted that the graduation course of the center is equivalent to level 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
It is expected that the project will contribute in enhancing the teaching, learning and understanding of the Japanese language and culture in the conducive study environment at the center.
