|
The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of 99,468 US Dollars; equivalent to approximately 9,887,119 Nepalese Rupees to Love Green Nepal, a local NGO in Lalitpur District. This financial assistance is extended under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan in Japan's Fiscal Year 2014. Love Green Nepal will use this assistance to implement the Project for the Construction of a Girls' Hostel at Janata Higher Secondary School in Siraha District.
A Grant Contract relating to this project was signed and exchanged on 20th February at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal between His Excellency Mr. Masashi OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Ms. Amira Dali, President, Love Green Nepal.
This grant assistance will be used to construct a two storey Girls' Hostel at Janata Higher Secondary School, which was established by the local community in Navarajpur VDC of Siraha District. This hostel will encourage girl students to pursue and complete higher secondary level education in this area. The hostel will be managed by the Hostel Management Committee, which consists of students, a hostel warden, the Headmaster, the Chairperson of the School Management Committee, and the VDC Secretary. In accordance to regulations made by the Committee, the students living in the hostel will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and management of the hostel.
Love Green Nepal has partnered with Japanese NGOs and donors for more than 20 years and has sent various members of staff to Japan for training. With these experiences, they will introduce aspects of the Japanese education system and hostel management to the hostel.
The Embassy of Japan expects that this type of girls’ hostel will become the norm, and will eventually be replicated in other rural areas. In this way, the Embassy strongly expects it will improve higher education for girls in Nepal.
