Formation in Japan of the Cooperation Committee for the
50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal (jn50)

The Cooperation Committee for the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal (jn50) has been formulated and launched amid a function held at Tokyo, Japan on March 3, 2006. The Cooperation Committee consists of 66 various entities from business houses, NGOs, community forums.
The committee has appointed Mr. Ryutaro Hashimoto, the former Prime Minister of Japan as President and similarly, anthropologist Dr. Jiro Kawakita has been installed as Honorary President of the Committee.
The Committee will organize various cultural programs in Japan and Nepal to mark the 50th Year of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal, throughout the year. Among these programs, the celebration of Nepal Week in Japan is scheduled in September and Japan Week in Nepal in November respectively.
Speaking at the function, His Excellency Mr. Hashimoto mentioned his involvement in various activities related to Nepal. Mr. Hashimoto has been involved in the construction of Kanti Children's Hospital, scholarship at the Kathmandu University, flood control projects, construction of Martial Arts Center in Kathmandu, to name a few. He also expressed his belief that the year of 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal, which also coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the First Ascent of Mt. Manaslu, will be instrumental in further strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.
Among other speakers, His Excellency Dr. Ramesh Ananda Vaidya, Royal Nepalese Ambassador to Japan elaborated on the friendly relations between the two countries at people to people level that stretch back for more than 100 years since the visit of Ven. Ekai Kawaguchi to Nepal and the study of Nepali students in Japan. Similarly, Mr. Toshihisa Takada, Deputy Director General of Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of Japan's Foreign Ministry also expressed his belief that people to people relations will be further strengthened in the years to come.
