Mustang Development Service Association (MDSA), in support of the Embassy of Japan, JICA Nepal Office and Japanese Association in Nepal, is organizing a Demonstration of Martial Arts by Mr. Kenji USHIRO and U.K. Jissen-Juku. The demonstration will be held in Multipurpose Martial Arts Center (MMAC) in Nayabazaar, Kathmandu at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009. An eight-member Japanese delegation is visiting Kathmandu to demonstrate the martial arts.
Kenji USHIRO; born in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan in 1949; became a member of Miyazaki University Karate Club in 1967. After graduation, he moved to Osaka and had an opportunity to practice a traditional form of Okinawan karate, famous as the core of karate-do. Through daily practice, he began to have doubts about the competitive karate he had practiced up until then and started training directly under Nikichi Zaha, known as headmaster of Shindo-ryu Karate. He devoted himself to the study of Zaha Karate. He is the 7th dan holder of Iaido (the art and the concept for drawing sword), of the All-Japan Kendo Federation, and also 8th dan holder and Kyoshi of Shindo-ryu Karate. In 2004, USHIRO formed "U.K. Jissen-Juku" which he currently heads. Here, U.K. stands for USHIRO Karate and Universal Karate.
At U.K. Jissen-Juku, instruction is being provided by "Shihan" (Grand Master) Kenji USHIRO in traditional Okinawan Shindo-ryu Karate-do. The aim of this style is the in-depth study of kata with a 600 year history in Okinawa, and the search for hidden content of kata through training in practical martial arts techniques. Also, essential to this approach is the creation of wholesome body and peaceful spirit. The secret to progress lies in transcending the idea of an enemy, in forging the body and polishing the spirit in the absolute sense. Moreover, it is possible to transform oneself into a stronger person by striving to unify mind and body through intense training.
The Demonstration will be divided into three segments, i.e. Nepali players will demonstrate Karate followed by Kendo (sword fencing) demonstration by Nepali players. Then after, "U.K. Jissen-Juku" will demonstrate their unique styled Martial Arts for about one-and-half hours.
It is hoped that the demonstration will help the Nepali audiences with the Japanese martial arts and will also contribute to deepening the mutual understanding between the two countries and its peoples through sports interaction interaction.
