The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial assistance of US Dollar 232,975.00, equivalent to approximately Nepalese Rupees 22,367,929 to AMDA Multisectoral and Integrated Development Services (AMDA-MINDS) under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects Scheme. AMDA-MINDS is a NGO based in Japan, which is working with Nepalese partner agency AMDA-Nepal, to implement the Project for Improving Environmental Sanitation of School Children in Four VDCs of Rupandehi District.
A Grant Contract relating to this project was signed and exchanged today at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal between Mr. Shuichi SAKAKIBARA, Chargés d’Affaires of Japan to Nepal, and Ms. Chiho MATSUMOTO, Country Director, AMDA- MINDS Nepal Office.
This grant assistance will be used to implement a project at Kamhariya, Mainahiya, Haati Bangai and Dhamauli VDCs in Rupandehi District, aiming for the improvement of environmental sanitation for school children. The major elements of this project are:-
(1) Improvement of the environmental sanitation in schools
AMDA-Minds plans to install or repair the sanitation facilities and water pumps at fifteen government schools in these areas.
(2) Formation of Child Clubs and their capacity building
This project will form “Child Clubs” in these fifteen government schools, and will conduct leadership training and basic health training to them.
(3) Awareness raising and promotion of hygiene in schools
Through the “Child Clubs”, this project will promote periodical cleanup activities, health behavior programmes and some awareness raising programmes in each school.
(4) Improving the environmental sanitation through the cooperation of “Child Clubs” and communities
This project will conduct a workshop for each “Child Club” to make them understand the hygiene situation in their community. After the workshop, they are expected to start community awareness campaigns in cooperation with Mother’s Groups in their community.
The Embassy of Japan expects this project to be both a success and enhance the cordial friendship between the people of both countries.
