At the same time H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA emphasized the need to improve the health indicators of the country in order to achieve these goals. Thus, it is expected that the Nursing Campus, Maharajgunj, which was also constructed under a Grant from the Government of Japan in 1984, will play an important role training professional nurses and health workers that will serve to improve the health status of the people of Nepal. The grant extended is expected to contribute towards fulfilling the ever-increasing demand in the professional field of nursing education.
On the occasion, H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA also reiterated that the Government of Japan has continuously provided support to the Medical Complex in various forms. Grant Assistance had been provided in Japan's Fiscal Year 1981/1982 to construct the TU Teaching Hospital, the first teaching hospital in Nepal. In 1984, Japan provided a Grant in support of upgrading medical equipment in Kanti Children's Hospital and the construction of the Nursing Campus. Kanti Children's Hospital was expanded under a Grant in 1993-1994. The Teaching Hospital was expanded under a Grant in 1990-1992, and further, from 1980 Japan provided Technical Assistance to the Teaching Hospital and the other facilities in this Medical Complex. Many Japanese experts and volunteers have worked with Nepali counterparts in this Complex and many Nepali medical staff received training in Japan.
H.E. Mr. HIRAOKA expressed his belief that the extension of the Academic Building of the Nursing Campus building during the memorable occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal will play a symbolic role in further strengthening the friendly and cordial relations between the two nations for the years to come.
