|
The JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth) Program is a Japanese government sponsored exchange program that aims at boosting the youths' potential through the sharing of experiences and expertise on common youth leadership and practices, as well as promoting cultural understanding, appreciation and respect among youths of all participating countries. The program was launched based on the Japanese Government's announcement during the Second East Asia Summit (EAS) about the plan to invite 6,000 young people, mainly from among East Asia Summit member countries, to Japan every year for five years from 2007.
This year Mr. Binaya K.C and Ms. Jannatul Pradhan from KU, and Ms. Subechha Pradhan and Mr. Dinesh Bhatta from the Engineering College, TU, participated in the program from Nepal. During the two-week stay from November 9 to 22, the students experienced interaction not only with Japanese youths but also with youths from other countries; visited universities, schools, research centers, industries, and traditional cities such as Tokyo, Kobe, Kyoto, Hiroshima, as well as historical sites.
Having participated in the program, the Nepali students stated that the program was extremely enlightening and beneficial. They spoke enthusiastically about how the valuable experiences they gained from the program helped them to achieve personal development. One of the participants commented: "Observing the discipline and dedication towards work that Japanese people have, has deeply inspired us to contribute something for the development of Nepal. Furthermore, our encounter with innovative and advanced technology in Japan has greatly inspired us. It's not possible to apply the same technology directly in Nepal. However, now we have an idea of from where to start. This is one of the greatest inspirations we have gained from the tour."
