Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Current Security Situation in the Kingdom of Nepal

- The Government of Japan expresses its concern that Maoists are intensifying their attacks against government agencies and establishments after they resumed their armed campaign last November in the Kingdom of Nepal. In particular, Japan strongly condemns the indiscriminate terrorist attacks against ordinary citizens and social infrastructure.
- Japan supports the efforts made by the Government of Nepal toward restoration of order within the framework of the Constitution, and strongly hopes that Maoists will cease their terrorist activities and promptly resume their talks earnestly with the Government of Nepal toward a peaceful solution of the situation.
