Phase 2 of Sindhuli Road Section II (Sindhuli Bazar-Khurkot) Inaugurated

Minister of Physical Planning and Works of the Government of Nepal, Mr. Gopal Man Shrestha and His Excellency Mr. Tsutomu HIRAOKA, the Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, in the presence of other member of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal, have jointly inaugurated, in Kathmandu today, the 13.5km long segment of Phase II of the Sindhuli Road Section II (Sindhuli Bazar - Khurkot section) connecting Pipal Bhanjyang to Khaniya Khark of Sindhuli District. The said Sindhuli Road Section II has been implemented under the grant assistance of the Government of Japan since Japan's Fiscal Year (JFY) 2001.
Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Mr. HIRAOKA expressed pleasure to note that the Government of Japan has been close development partner of Nepal, extending its Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Nepal for her development endeavor since 1969. In this line, the Government of Japan has been extending grant assistance to Nepal for the construction of the 158km long Sindhuli Road since 1996. This road stretches from Bardibas to Dhulikhel with the division of four separate sections, further adding one more precious milestone in the friendly relationship between the two countries. For this purpose, as of JFY 2005, the Government of Japan has already extended a sum of 15.8 billion Japanese Yen to the Government of Nepal for the implementation of the project for Construction of Sindhuli Road.
Taking into account the hardship faced by all involved during the construction of Section II, His Excellency Mr. HIRAOKA expressed his sincere congratulation and appreciation to all concerned for their energetic, hard work in realizing the success of this Project.
On the occasion, His Excellency Mr. HIRAOKA also recalled that the Government of Japan is observing the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Japan Nepal Diplomatic Relation this year and expressed that he was delighted to be a part of today's function, which is part of the observation of the 50th Anniversary. Further, HE Mr. HIRAOKA noted the people residing in the areas nearby the road, which is approximately 100,000 people, will have a better access to Sindhuli Bazar as well as the rest of the country.
Emphasizing the importance of the infrastructure for nation building, HE Mr. HIRAOKA expected that, after the completion of this Project, it will contribute to increasing economic activities and also provide easy access to basic human needs, such as health, education, etc.
Finally, His Excellency expressed his sincere wishes that the project will contribute to further strengthening the friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and Nepal.
