Japan Congratulates Nepal
|
On behalf of the Government of Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu wishes to extend its heartfelt congratulations to the Government and the people of Nepal on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day. Two years ago today, the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held and newly elected members of the Assembly adopted the resolution that declares Nepal as a Federal Democratic Republic. Japan believes that Republic Day is the best day to renew the commitment that the Constituent Assembly has promised to the people of Nepal.
While welcoming the recent political development that extended the tenure of the Constituent Assembly as a success of energetic efforts made by the political parties, which encouraged all people and governments concerned with the democracy and the peace process in Nepal, it is a matter of great regret that the process of writing new constitution couldn't meet the deadline as stipulated in the Interim Constitution. It is Japan's sincere wish that Nepal's peace process, which aims at consolidating democracy and establishing lasting peace in the country, will reach a logical conclusion through the peaceful dialogue and understanding among the political parties, and that people's age-long aspiration will be realized finally.
Japan is firmly committed and will continue to support Nepal's efforts in this endeavor, and also confident that our friendly and cooperative relations will be further strengthened in the days ahead.
