Japan Offers Emergency Disaster Relief Goods to His Majesty's Government of Nepal

The Government of Japan has decided on July 29, 2002, Monday to donate through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) such emergency aid materials as tents and blankets worth about ten million Yen ( 10,000,000), approximately six million, five hundred and fifty thousand Nepalese rupees (NRs. 6,550,000) to His Majesty's Government of Nepal, which has been suffering serious damages from flood and landslides caused by the torrential monsoon rain.
The Government of Japan has decided to extend this aid from a humanitarian point of view considering the friendly relationship between the two countries taking account of the scale of the disaster. Further, this assistance is intended to support the government's emergency relief programs for the people in areas affected by floods and landslides.
The relief materials are expected to be arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on July 31 and August 1, 2002 through Thai Airways in two consignments. It is also scheduled to hold a brief ceremony to handover the relief materials to His Majesty's Government of Nepal at TIA on August 1, 2002.
The Embassy expresses its deep sympathy to the all concerned of the current disaster situation and expresses hope that the emergency disaster relief assistance from the Government of Japan would be helpful to those affected by floods and landslides.
